Once upon a Bridge from Druid

Once Upon a Bridge, a new play by Sonya Kelly will premiere at Druid’s Mick Lally Theatre from February 11-13 in a livestream production, directed by Sara Joyce.
The play was inspired by real events on London’s Putney Bridge, when three strangers’ lives briefly collided one morning. It explores human triumph and frailty; the role of destiny and the choices people make.
Druid premiered Sonia’s previous play, Furniture during the 2018 Arts Festival, and it toured in 2019 – it began life as part of the Druid Debut series in 2017.
The company commissioned this new play last Spring and the cast includes Druid Ensemble member Aaron Monaghan, Siobhán Cullen and Adetomiwa Edun.
Like Sonya, Sara was previously involved with the Druid Debut series – as a director in 2019. She’s also worked with the National Theatre, The Yard, The Bush and the Old Vic in London.
Costume Designer Clíodhna Hallissey was the 2019 recipient of the Marie Mullen Bursary and has since worked as costume designer for On the Outside during DruidGregory.
One of this year’s Marie Mullen Bursary recipients, Emily Foran, will be assistant director for Once Upon a Bridge.
The play will be broadcast from The Mick Lally Theatre from February 11-13 at 7.30pm, with a 2.30pm matinee on February 13. Tickets at druid.ticketsolve.com, costing €12 until this Friday and €15 then.
