Galician musician Anxo Lorenzo (Spanish bagpipes/whistles) will join forces with guitarist Jim Murray, fiddler Dónal O’Connor and concertina-player Jack Talty  for a 14-date tour of Ireland that starts next week and will visit Clifden next Friday, January 17.

This tour by leading traditional musicians from Ireland and Galicia is presented by Ireland’s music-touring and development agency, Music Network.

The performance by the quartet will include music from Ireland and Galicia and will also include a Music Network commission from each of the four.

In their various roles as players, composers, arrangers, accompanists, producers and record label owners, Anxo, Jim, Dónal and Jack have left their mark on music locally and internationally.

Anxo Lorenzo is an award-winning Galician piper who has performed at Europe’s main folk and trad festivals including WOMAD, Cambridge Folk Festival, Celtic Connections, Festival Interceltique de Lorient, Ortigueira, Cork Folk Festival and the William Kennedy Piping Festival in Armagh.

Cork guitarist Jim Murray has recorded and toured with Sharon Shannon across five continents and performed and recorded with artists including Sinéad O’Connor, Shane MacGowan and Mary Black. His two critically acclaimed albums with Kerry accordion player and singer Séamus Begley won several awards, including The Irish Times and HotPress Traditional Irish Music Album of the Year.

Dónal O’Connor is the son of celebrated fiddler Gerry O’Connor and renowned singer Eithne Ní Uallacháin. His musical legacy includes at least five generations of fiddle playing. Dónal’s recent collaborations have included tours with Lúnasa, Guidewires, Buille and Cathal McConnell and television performances with The West Ocean String Quartet and legendary Sligo flute player Séamus Tansey.
