Expect an evening of bittersweet and brilliant songs when Little Green Cars bring their acoustic tour to the Town Hall Theatre on Wednesday next, December 14. This year the band released their second album Ephemera, and confirmed that their sublime 2013 debut Absolute Zero was no fluke.

December is a time of year when people tend to reflect and guitarist Adam O’Regan is happy with how the year has unfolded for Little Green Cars.

“Our album came out and it had an amazing reception – I’m really proud of the songs and the work we did on it,” he says. “We toured around America and Europe – it’s been a very busy year. We got straight back into writing and we’re working on our third album. The past three or four months have been spent writing new music.”

Is there any particular moment that stood out for Adam?

“That last American tour was pretty special,” he says. “We’ve done about eight tours of the States, and every time we go over the venues are getting bigger, there are new faces in the crowd. To finally put out the album and have people at the shows singing the songs back, that was really special.”

Little Green Cars have done a theatre tour before, and Adam enjoys presenting the songs in this setting.

“I guess there are a few aspects to our sound and songwriting that we enjoy exploring,” he says. “We always felt that if you have a truly great song, it should hold up with one acoustic guitar, as much as it does with a full band onstage.

“The songs will always start like that, adds Adam. “When Stevie [Appleby] brings a song to the band it’ll always be in a fairly bare form, on an acoustic guitar or a piano, and we build on it. In their rawest form, I think those songs hold up.”

Little Green Cars took the unusual step of co-producing Ephemera. With five people in the band, was there ever a chance of too many cooks spoiling the broth?
