Liam Ó Maonlaí and the all-star band Ré will be in concert in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church next Thursday, May 6.

Ré (which means ‘moon’ or ‘era’) includes Dublin based piper Maitiú Ó Casaide (the 2015 TG4 Young Musician of the Year) as well as Kerry concertina player Cormac Begley, the winner of the Seán Ó Riada awards in 2014. Eithne Ní Chatháin is a traditional singer and fiddle player from Kildare, who is breaking new ground in indie-folk under the alias Inni-K is also involved and the final member of the group is Peter O’Toole, a founding member of the Hothouse Flowers, alongside Liam Ó Maonlaí.

With LIam, Eithne and Peter, Ré has three very different singers, while all six performers play wide range of instruments, including pipes, tin whistle, fiddle, piano, bodhrán, bouzouki, guitar, and the full spectrum of concertinas. Music at their concerts ranges from traditional tunes to traditional and non-traditional songs.

This outfit has performed at top international arts festivals from Sydney to Singapore over the past few years. They have also toured extensively throughout Europe and performed at New York’s Lincoln Center.

Ré recorded their debut album live as part of the Tunes in the Church series in St Nicholas’ Church last July. They launched the CD in December in a sellout concert at Dublin’s Unitarian Church.

Now they are on a 17-night church tour of Ireland, which includes Galway’s St Nicholas’ Church.

Tickets available from: www.tunesinthechurch.com at €20 per person.
