Kevin Doyle for Elvis tribute at Gospel Rising Festival
Celebrating gospel and choral music, The Gospel Rising festival comes to Galway between May18 and 20. A highlight of the weekend will be Kevin Doyle Is Not Elvis at Monroe’s Live, on Saturday, May 20.
Singing the songs of Memphis’s most famous son, Kevin Doyle is a tribute performer whose shows have filled the Olympia.
His gig will feature an ‘unplugged’ set, as well as big production numbers.
Elvis was a performer who embraced many styles – from Are You Lonesome Tonight to Viva Las Vegas, from Hound Dog to the glorious American Trilogy, where his love of gospel music shines through.
Presley’s is a great fit for this festival. A lifelong fan of this kind of music he once stated that “Gospel music is the purest thing there is on this earth”. The Way It Is, a documentary that sees Elvis preparing for the Summer Festival in Vegas in 1970, sees him channeling this feeling. He was still at his peak and singing beautifully.
The Gospel Medley scene, available on YouTube shows how much Elvis enjoyed this music as well as calibre of singers he surrounded himself with.
This music and more, will be reprised in style by Doyle and his band. It should make for a rock and rolling time!
Tickets €15.
