Headford theatre group staging world premiere

Headford Community Theatre is currently presenting the world premiere of a new drama, ‘Last Stop Knocksala’, by local playwright, Michael Carey.
Michael is a retired school principal and an actor and playwright of standing in Ireland’s amateur circuit. His debut three-act play, 'Craddock’s Well,' is popular with groups as far away as the USA, while another of his works, ‘Thy Will Be Done’, has won several major awards and remains a favourite on the drama festival circuit in Ireland.
The village of Knocksala, where this play is set, is perfect, ‘if it’s the quiet life you’re looking for.’ The story revolves around Katie Sweeney’s pub and those who frequent it.
There’s mystery, intrigue, laughter and romance, as a stranger arrives in this sleepy town. The local sergeant, who is about to retire, hasn’t been overly challenged, other than by a couple of local characters, a drunken nuisance and a smart alec mechanic. But now, the arrival of a stranger with a questionable history disturbs his peace. Why did this person come to Knocksala and what is he hiding?
All is revealed in this production, which runs from this Thursday to Sunday, at St Fursa’s Parish Hall.
The play is directed by award-winning actor and director John McHugh.
Headford has a long history of amateur drama. From a production of ‘The Colleen Bawn’ in 1915 through to more recent successes, ‘I Do Not Like Thee Dr Fell,’ and ‘The Country Boy’, performers have shone on national and international stages. Headford Drama Group, formed in 1973, made history in 1983 by becoming the first group to win the Confined and Open All-Ireland finals in the same year – a feat that hasn’t been achieved since.
The new show is at 8pm nightly and tickets are on tickettailor.ie.
