Grit and grace on the menu for Marc O’Reilly’s Róisín gig

Singer-songwriter Marc O’Reilly comes to the city’s Róisín Dubh on Friday next, September 28. The Waterford native released his fourth album L’Etre Politique earlier this year – a collection that really starts with a bang.
Enemy Of, a song that brings to mind the fury and energy of Queens of The Stone Age, is the opener for a collection that captures many moods and themes. It tackles capitalism and war, but also focuses on more intimate relationships and friendships.
Quiet Place is an affecting track that seems to channel Rage Against the Machine, while also having elements of folk music. Be Alive sees Marc unleash an impressive falsetto over a swaggering guitar riff, and has a sense of urgency that runs throughout the album, which was recorded over a two-week period last year.
Marc released his first album in 2011 and has been touring regularly since then. He grew up in a musical household, and as a youngster was influenced by an older brother who was going through a metal phase. However, Marc expanded his own tastes, and continued to graft away on the guitar.
A songwriter of grit and grace, he has played at festivals across Europe and has also performed at Glastonbury. His show upstairs in the Róisín will be well worth checking out.
■ Doors 8pm, admission €10.
