Get set to dance as Interskalactic mix ska and big-band sounds

Supremely easy to dance to and always eager to put on a quality live show, Interskalactic play Monroe’s Live on Saturday, April 15. The band play their own material, mixed in with ska classics and for people who are into music that’s easy and upbeat, this will be a great way to spend a Saturday night.
Anyone who has attended any of Ireland’s major festivals in recent times will probably have witnessed Interskalactic doing their thing with Jamaican-inspired music. The band are regulars at Electric Picnic and Body & Soul, and have also graced the stage at Donegal’s burgeoning Sea Sessions. And if you have ever been to Cork Jazz Festival, it’s more than likely you’ve thrown a few shapes at one of their shows.
Their set includes classic ska artists including Prince Buster, The Skatalites and Byron Lee & the Dragonaires as well as their own ska-ified versions of popular hits from the last few decades. For example, they’re fond of reprising OutKast’s Hey Ya and giving it a reggae twist. They also aim to give ska a big-band twist, which is probably why RTÉ’s Ryan Tubridy called them the ‘future of ska in Ireland’ during their Late Late Show appearance.
That remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure – you’ll want to dance.
Doors for their show on April 8.30pm, tickets €8 from monroes.ie.
