Get set for a Wild West Ukulele Fest

Just when you thought that Galway couldn’t accommodate another festival, one comes one in celebration of the ukulele.
The first ever Wild West Uke Fest is running from September 7-9 in Galway City, with a host of free events
It will open with the Ukulele Ceilidh, a free event in Monroe’s Tavern at 6pm. People are encouraged to bring along their ukulele to have a jam with local groups and perform on stage.
The weekend will also see a Ukulele Flashmob when gangs of ukulele players will take over Shop Street. The organisers are hoping for thousands of performers but are realistic enough to know that they’ll probably have 10 or 20!
A highlight of the festival will be the ‘Uke of the Year 2018’ competition, where artists and groups from around the country will battle it out for the title in front of a live audience.
There will be special concerts on the Friday and Saturday night, with a top-class line-up of ukulele players including Minnie & the Illywhackers, Little John Nee, Big Jelly and The Clandestinos among others. There’ll also be musical comedy from Irish Comedian of the Year, Steve Bennett. The Festival will close on Sunday with a free afternoon concert in Monroe’s, starting at 3pm.
