Friends reunited provides the inspiration for songweaver!

Though he works across multiple genres, Eoin Glackin is best described as a narrative songwriter. The Dubliner weaves stories into his lyrics – often drifting between hope and melancholia in seamless, troubadour style. His latest offering, a gently plucked acoustic track inspired by a close friend coming back into his life, finds itself somewhere between the two.
El Dorado is set for release on Friday week, November 27. And in a difficult year for a relentless tourer, Eoin will be hoping that this latest single can emulate the success of June’s Before the Rain. With talk of an album next spring, he is managing to stay productive in challenging circumstances.
“The first few weeks were enjoyable,” Eoin says of the first lockdown.
“It was kind of nice – you just got to relax. I started playing guitar and properly practicing again. I didn’t realise it but I hadn’t been doing it much at the time because when you’re out gigging, you’re out gigging.
“That was all fine for a few weeks and then it just started to go ‘Hold on, there’s something not right here’. There is a sense of loss alright. I don’t want to be overly dramatic but for musicians who gig, it’s something we’re just drawn to do.
“It’s surreal how long it’s been. When I think it’s now November and I haven’t played a gig since March... Since I started gigging, I’ve never gone more than a few weeks without doing some sort of gig so it’s strange.”
The narrative format has always appealed to Eoin. It is what draws him to any and all genres and it is something he has championed in his own work. El Dorado follows the same formula.
Eoin takes care to ensure there is an overarching meaning behind the story and, in this case, there is a hopeful sense of perseverance.
