Food for thought in Kathy’s café exhibition

Artist Kathy Ross is currently exhibiting her colourful paintings in Tuam’s Leaf and Bean Café.
The exhibition features some of Galway's best loved landmarks such as the Claddagh, Long Walk, Galway City's West End and of course the beautiful Christmas in the Latin Quarter.
She has also included some wildlife studies inspired by the countryside around Tuam.
Kathy, formerly of the Lackagh parish, moved to Tuam in the past year.
“I'm extremely proud to be able to display my work here,” she says of the cafe. “Leaf and Bean is run by Damian Cosgrove and it’s also to the town, so its seemed a perfect collaboration.” The fact that the café offers “artisan coffees and healthy, tasty meals”, also appeals to her.
Kathy who has a degree in Art from the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, and a post-graduate qualification in Arts Administration from NUIG, is also teaching art classes in Tuam, in the new Family Centre on the Dublin Road.
“I'm running adult, teen, and kids’ classes here so there's something for everyone,” she says.
She’s also part of a group exhibition entitled Desire, which is running jointly in Galway City’s Town Hall Theatre and Black Gate Cultural Centre until next week.
This mixed show by Irish and international artists is exploring themes of desire and love.
In addition, Kathy is working on a new collection of paintings entitled Timeless.
“This body of work explores ideas of beauty found in the most remote of places, from derelict houses reclaimed by nature, to beautiful agricultural buildings, monuments of the passing of time,” she explains.
Kathy is currently on the hunt for a venue in Tuam to show this work in July, as it has been mostly inspired by the locality. It will then travel to the Town Hall Theatre in Galway City, to be curated in another show by local artist Margaret Nolan.
Meanwhile, her show in Leaf and Bean will run until mid-March.
