Exciting programme for Jazz Festival

Musicians from 14 countries will perform more than 50 concerts in 20 different venues across Galway City for this year’s Galway Jazz Festival, which runs from Thursday, October 4, until Sunday, October 7.
The expanded programme was launched this Wednesday evening in Sheridan’s Wine Bar in the city.
Two of the major threads to the festival concern Brexit, and the best of German jazz. Other headline acts will come from Austria, Holland, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Poland, Spain and the US.
As well as formal concerts, the festival will present lunchtime gigs, DJ sets, pocket-sized performances, a film-screening, a fully functioning jazz shop and what promises to be a fascinating panel discussion about the possible impact of Brexit on live music and the arts generally.
The opening concert by the much-lauded Viennese radio.string.quartet will take place in St Nicholas' Collegiate Church in association with Music for Galway. This collaboration is part of a pattern for the festival which, this year, presents events in association with, among others, the Galway University Arts Trust, Galway City of Film, the Goethe Institut, the Brothers of Charity, IMRO and numerous local businesses.
The printed progamme for this year’s event is widely available and full details are on line at the festival website, www.galwayjazz.ie.
