Furbo Art, a group of professional artists from the Furbo area and the Baptist community, are hosting another exhibition this year, following their successful debut in 2016.

The Meeting Hall of the Furbo Baptist Church, is the venue once again, having been enhanced to make it more suitable for displaying art.

Seventeen artists are taking part.

“The amount of artistic talent in such a small geographic area is phenomenal,” says wood-sculptor Liam O’Neill, a member of the church, and one of the exhibition organisers.

“Our congregation is also highly unusual in having so many painters and sculptors as attendees,” he adds. “We view the arts as a unifying force in the community and it was gratifying to see how the local population supported last year’s event.”

The committee includes school headmaster Seán Breathnach, who “in spite of having to oversee the building of the new primary school, has also found time to help make our event a success”, says Liam.

There’s a professional approach to the exhibition, with a commission of 30% on sales. That will be divided equally between Furbo Baptist Church building enhancement fund, and Ciste Cabhrach na Forbacha – a local community crisis fund.

The show is sponsored by local businesses, as well as Ealaín na Gaeltachta and TG4.

■ The exhibition will be open to the public until this Saturday, July 22, from 10am to 6pm and all are welcome to call in and view the works.
