Artists and community to benefit from Arts Council residencies

It’s been a tough few months for those working in the arts, especially freelancers who don’t have the safety net of belonging to well-funded organisations.
But four Galway artists have now got some good news as they’ve received Arts Council Residencies for 2020 – 2021.
They are Bernadette Divilly, James Riordan, Little John Nee and Róisín Stack and they will work on projects across venues in Galway City and County throughout 2020 and 2021, collaborating with a range of local artists.
These Arts Council residencies are worth a maximum of €20,000 to recipients – the figure is normally between €10,000 and €20,000.
Under the scheme, Bernadette Divilly will be Dance Artist in Residence at Galway Arts Centre where she will research Contemplative Dance Practice (CDP) and create an online CDP exhibition involving sound installation, performance and photography.
She will also build participatory and audience access to dance through Galway Dance Project and radio/podcasts through Ballinasloe Library, with support from Galway Arts Centre and Galway County Council.
Brú Theatre’s James Riordan will be one of two Theatre Artists in Residence at Galway City’s Town Hall Theatre.
His work there will involve a physical theatre summer school and a second Remote Control artist development programme (online), as well as new writing and theatre-making with international collaborators on site-specific pieces.
Little John Nee will also be Theatre Artist in Residence at the Town Hall. He will create several events and one new main-stage show as part of an ambitious joint residency between An Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny, and the Town Hall, in partnership with Galway County Arts Office and Donegal Arts Service.
