Art in Mind putting focus on creativity and mental wellbeing

More than 300 people have visited the Art in Mind gallery and studio since it launched last week in Galway City’s Liosbán Estate.
Galway’s new artist-led non-profit organisation is a creative hub dedicated to promoting wellbeing and mental health.
The aim of this grassroots group is to encourage people with no previous experience to create art through artist-led hands-on workshops and talks. Conversations surrounding mental health issues will be brought to the fore via monthly artist-led public events that will engage wider society.
Occupying several buildings in the Liosbán Estate, Art in Mind consists of offices, studio space and a gallery.
The gallery is currently hosting an exhibition by the group’s creative director, Glenn Gibson titled The Observer and the Observed. It will run until September 29. Glenn is a professional artist who specialises in wire sculpting and is renowned for his Connemara hawthorn sculptures. He also teaches the skill.
The gallery will host a new artist every month with launches taking place on the full moon. A retrospective of work by photographer Joe Geoghegan will open on October 1.
