All systems go in for Portumna Arts Festival

The 2021 Portumna Shorelines Arts Festival, which runs from next Thursday to Sunday, September 16-19, will feature music from Gatehouse, The Henry Girls, Mike Hanrahan and Eleanor Shanley, Rachael Grace, Seba Safe and many local performers.
There will be readings and literary events with Nuala O’Connor, Sarah Moore-Fitzgerald, Eleanor Hooker, David Butler, Louise Kennedy, Madeleine D’Arcy and Bernie Crawford, while on the drama front. Timmy Creed will present Spliced.
Shorelines are also collaborating with the County Council-County Tourism music initiative, Ceol an tSamhraidh, to bring larger capacity events and free music to the festival.
Free arts events will include Only for This, a photography exhibition with commissioned original work from writers Donal Ryan, James Harpur, Geraldine Mills, Stephen James Smith and Geraldine Mitchell.
Earlier this summer, people in and around Portumna were asked to submit a photo of the place, thing, person or moment that had stood out for them during the past 18 months. A shortlist was drawn up from some 100 entries and invited writers were assigned a randomly selected piece for which to provide text. The pieces will be paired up in Only For This, which will line the walkway between Portumna Castle and its Café and Gallery. Works will also be in the car-park of the Forest Park, as well as popping up in windows and railings around the town. The plan is to have the exhibition in place for a few weeks. A collage of all 100 photographs will also be displayed on Portumna’s streets.
