‘Alien-pop’ electro duo Nanu Nanu play the Róisín Dubh on Wednesday, May 7. Nanu Nanu consists of ‘Glitterface’ and ‘Mirrorman’, otherwise known as Laura Sheeran and Marc Aubele.

Nanu Nanu began in the summer of 2011 when Laura – a highly regarded solo singer– got a voice effects pedal. She played with it while Marc was in America with Bell X1, of which he’s a touring member.

“When Marc came back, he’d gotten a new Moog synthesiser,” Laura says. “The two of us went into the studio for a jam, because we wanted to show off our new gear. Up until that point, we’d played in each other’s bands but we’d never written any music together.”

They have since toured across Europe and have played at the Electric Picnic several times.

As well as crafting electro gems, Nanu Nanu devote time to the visual side of their show, especially lights and costumes.

“Since the beginning, we were both clear that Nanu Nanu had its own image,” Laura says. “I’ve always loved dressing up and doing photo shoots with my friends. Over the course of those girly nights, I’d half-crafted the Glitterface character. It was a good way from me to go ‘hey, I can dress like that all the time!’ and really go to town with it’.”

Drums and guitar duo It Was All A Bit Black And White will also be playing.

Doors 9pm, admission €5/€4 members.
