Abbey teams up with Town Hall for One Good Turn ‘hybrid’ City Council meeting
Una McKevitt’s new comic play, One Good Turn, which premiered at the Abbey Theatre earlier this week, will be livestreamed from the venue this Friday and Saturday night, May 25 and 26. The Abbey has also partnered with the Town Hall Theatre to give the Galway venue’s audiences access to the livestream.
In addition to livestreaming and being available on demand until Saturday, July 10, the production is playing to a limited audience of 50 each night, as Covid-19 restrictions ease.
One Good Turn presents a family on the brink, who are intent on keeping the show on the road in any way they can. Brenda wants Frank to do his exercises, Aoife wants to go to a wedding, Fiona doesn’t know what she wants and Frank is looking for the gun. Una McKevitt, a previous winner of the Stewart Parker playwrighting award, is making her Abbey debut with this show, as is director Emma Jordan who won Best Director at the Irish Times Theatre Awards in 2018.
It’s the first live ensemble production on the Abbey stage since March 2020 and features a superb cast, including Abbey regulars Bosco Hogan, Catherine Byrne and Shane O’Reilly, alongside Pom Boyd and Liz FitzGibbon, fresh from their recent outing on Channel 4’s Frank of Ireland. Also appearing is Aoibhéann McCann’s, making her Abbey debut.
