Claregalway’s 9 Arch Musical Society will perform the hilarious musical Little Shop of Horrors in the city’s Town Hall Theatre, from Wednesday to Saturday, November 17-20.  The group is a member of the Irish Association of Musical Societies (AIMS) and this is the first AIMS musical theatre production in the country since Covid-19 restrictions were eased.

The show is directed by Alan Greaney, who is already known for his singing and acting prowess and is showcasing his directing skills for the first time. The Musical Director is Shane Farrell and it’s choreographed by Jay Molyneux.

9 Arch had originally intended staging Oklahoma but knew that a memorable production would have required a big chorus and full cast. In light of Government guidelines, the production team settled instead on Little Shop of Horrors which has a smaller cast. That decision was made in September and they immediately swung into action, holding auditions, after which people set about learning their song and their moves.

The cast includes Jay Molyneux as Seymour, Marilyn Bane as Audrey, Frank Jay Hall as Mr Mushnik, David Alexander as Scrivello DDS and Emma Brady as Audrey II  (plant).

Rehearsals have been ongoing since September and the production team is delighted with how they are progressing.

The Town Hall shows are at 8pm nightly with a matinee on Saturday at 2.30pm. Tickets from the Town Hall website on www.tht.ie/. They cost €15 for Wednesday’s show, €18 for Thursday and €22 for Friday and Saturday’s evening show. The matinee is €15. People can email  [email protected] with any further enquiries.
