Swimmers and surfers in Galway are being warned of the Weever fish - found all around the coast.

The small, sandy-coloured fish spends most of its time buried in the sand with only its venomous black dorsal fin visible.

The new moon today [10/8] and Spring tides mean that swimmers and surfers will have to go further out to the water - where more weever fish are found.

Irish Water Safety warn that one danger from a sting is that it can cause anaphylactic shock or allergic reaction.
