Veterans of film sharing knowledge at Fleadh

Actor Gabriel Byrne, documentary-maker Mark Cousins and writer Mark Fergus will be ‘in conversation’ at a series of public events during Galway Film Fleadh, which runs from next Tuesday, July 20, to Sunday, July 25.
The three separate online events will focus on acting, directing and screenwriting as these experts share their knowledge. All are free but people must register in advance.
Gabriel Byrne, whose new film Death of a Ladies’ Man features in the festival programme, will chat with Fleadh board member, actor and writer Kate O’Toole.
In this film, Byrne plays Samuel O’Shea, a perennial womaniser who begins experiencing strange visions that disrupt his world and alarm him.
Irish-Scottish documentary maker Mark Cousins will be in conversation with Irish editor and director Declan McGrath.
Cousins’ documentaries include Women Make Film: A New Road Movie Through Cinema and What Is This Film Called Love?, all of which push boundaries in content and form.
His latest, The Story of Looking, is a personal documentary which explores the significance of vision as he undergoes eye surgery. It’s in the Fleadh programme.
The third participant is Irish-American screenwriter Mark Fergus, who will be in discussion with Irish screenwriter and screen consultant Mary Kate O’Flanagan.
He is co-writer of successes such as Iron Man and Children of Men, the latter which won him an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
His other credits include sci-fi thriller Cowboys and Aliens and the TV series The Expanse. Fergus will discuss his writing career.
The Acting ‘in conversation’ with Gabriel Byrne will take place on Saturday, July 24, at 12pm, the Directing ‘in conversation’ with Mark Cousins will be on the same day at 2pm, and the Screenwriting ‘in conversation’ with Mark Fergus will be on Sunday, July 25, at 2pm.
