Sarsfields poised to regain top dog status in senior camogie final clash with Oranmore

THIS WEEKEND sees four county finals down for decision in the Galway camogie club championships across Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.
Sarsfields and Oranmore Maree will meet in the Senior Camogie Championship final on Sunday at Kenny Park (3pm).
Oranmore Maree sprung a massive surprise at the semi-final stage last weekend, knocking reigning All-Ireland champions Athenry out of the championship.
Ailish O’Reilly finished with an impressive 0-12, while Niamh Farrell, Niamh Hannify and Rachael Hannify also chipped in with key scores as Oranmore Maree narrowly edged past Athenry by the minimum.
Shannon Corcoran and Siobhan McGrath were in fine scoring form, combining for 3-11 as Sarsfields issued a statement of intent by defeating Shamrocks 4-24 to 0-11 in their semi-final.
Hopper McGrath’s side have previously defeated Oranmore Maree at the county final stage in 2021, 2022 and 2023. This will be Oranmore Maree’s first county final appearance in three years and they will be hoping to get their hands on the senior championship title for the first time since 1973.
The Bullaun and New Inn based club will be aiming to capure their seventh Galway crown in eight years and go one step further than last year after falling short in the county final to Athenry. On form, Sarsfields look in a strong position to get back on top this weekend.
Salthill Knocknacarra and St Thomas will battle it out in the Senior B Camogie Championship final on Sunday at Kenny Park (1pm), with the winner securing senior camogie status for 2027.
The Seasiders arrive into this weekend’s decider where they will contest their third Senior B final in a row. Laura Kelly’s accuracy from the placed ball has been another key factor in Salthill Knocknacarra getting back to another county final and her accuracy proved crucial as they defeated Craughwell by nine points in last weekend’s semi-final.
After Aine Keane missed most of last year with an ACL injury, her return has been a significant boost for St Thomas’ this season. Goals from Siobhan Mullins and Amy Caufield in the second half saw St Thomas do just enough to get past Kinvara in the semi-final by a single point last weekend.
There will also be two more county finals down for decision in Duggan Park on Bank Holiday Monday. Kilconieron face Turloughmore in the Junior A championship final, while the Intermediate decider also forms part of that double-header, with Liam Mellows meeting Kiltormer in the Ballinasloe Venue
