Facchineri set to be sidelined with shoulder injury
Galway United centre-back picked up injury in draw away to Derry City
Gianfranco Facchineri is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up a shoulder injury when landing awkwardly midway through the second-half of Galway United’s 1-1 draw away to Derry City on Monday night.
The defender, who has been capped at U-17 level for Canada, is set to have an MRI on his shoulder this week, but United manager John Caulfield says that he is braced for Facchineri missing a run of games, saying shoulder injuries are rarely a short-term issue.
"Frankie [Facchinieri] hurt his shoulder, we don't know yet how long he is out but with a shoulder injury, it is rarely a short-term thing, we are just waiting for the results of a scan and MRI," Caulfield said.
Facchinieri picked up the injury when landing awkwardly midway through the second-half of Monday's game, and he joins long-term absentee Dara McGuinness, as well as Arthur Parker, on the injury-list.
McGuinness has yet to feature this season, having picked up an injury in last season’s 1-1 draw at home to Drogheda United in October; while Parker picked up a knock in training the day before the 1-1 draw away to Waterford back on April 24.
