Double gold for Galway athlete Fallon

RISING star Keith Fallon of GCH was Galway’s top performer when powering to a brilliant double in the All-Ireland Junior and U-23 Track & Field Championships held in Athlone last Sunday
Fallon captured the Under 23 800m, in a time of 1.56, and the 1500m in four minutes flat after winning both events from the front in an impressive display of middle distance running.
Evan McGuire of GCH took the Junior Men’s 400m in a new indoor personal best of 49.78, with Robert Meagher of GCH finishing 4th in the same event. GCH sprinter Laura Ann Costello won silver in the Junior women’s 200m in a new indoor best for her of 7.69.
Maebh Brannigan finished second in the Junior women’s 400m in a quality performance, and is definitely one to watch over the coming season, with clubmate Alanna Lally taking bronze just behind her. There were also promising performances from GCH sprinters James Mitchell, who made the 60m final, and Simon O’Shaughnessy
Cathriona Farrell of Craughwelll AC captured the National U23 high jump title with a fine leap over 1.75m and is in great form since her recent return to competition. Athenry AC's Sinead Touhy took the silver medal in the same event.
Peadar Harvey, also Craughwell AC, sliced another second off his 800m best in the National U23s, and came close to breaking the two minute barrier for the first time with a 2.00.43 to take the National bronze medal behind Keith Fallon.
Craughwell had some other exciting performances from up and coming athletes such as Conor Duggan, whose sprinting progress continued when knocking another 0.05s off his PB and setting a club record when running 7.23 in the Junior Men’s 60m.
