New head coaches confirmed at two clubs ahead of new basketball season
Maree and University of Galway Mystics to have new faces on the sideline
Two of Galway's four national league sides have announced new head coach appointments ahead of the start of the new basketball season on the first weekend of October.
Jose Rodriguez has been unveiled as the new head coach of University of Galway Mystics. He joins the Division One side from Spain where he was head coach and assistant coach with Cab Atarfe in Granada at both girls' underage and senior men's level.
Rodriguez is no stranger to Galway, having previously worked as head coach of the senior Women's team with Titans from September 2019 to June 2024.
Mike Lynch is returning to Maree to lead their side in the 2026/27 men's Division One campaign, having previously served as both assistant coach and head coach for the side, including being part of the coaching team that led the club to promotion to the Men's Super League in 2017.
The two other Men's Division One sides have confirmed the return of their respective head coaches form last season.
Paul O'Brien will once again lead a Maigh Cuilinn squad that is likely to feature may of last year's squad, which saw a number of players break through from its juvenile section to make the step up to the national league.
Grant Olsson will be back for another season with the club, as will club stalwarts, Dylan Cunningham and James Tummon.
Titans have confirmed that Erin Bracken will return after a brilliant first season at the club, when she led the club to the league final, hammering Maree in a derby semi-final, before losing to Limerick Sport Eagles in the decider.
