City native who captained school squad this year could become fourth Galwegian to win award

Galway United’s James Morahan is in the running to become the fourth Galway player to win the FAI U-18 Boys’ Schools International Player of the Year award after being included in the shortlist that was announced this week.

The Bish student captained the U-18 Boys’ Republic of Ireland Schools in their Centenary Shield campaign this season, playing the full 90 minutes throughout the trio of games.

He has been shortlisted for the award along with Noah O'Brien of De La Salle College in Waterford, and Rowan McGroarty of Loreto Community School in Milford in Donegal.

If he wins, he will be the first Galway player to land the award since Ryan Manning (Yeats College) took home the gong in 2014.

Fellow Bish student, Colin Hawkins, was the first Galwegian to win the award when named as Player of the Year in 1995; and the award stayed in Galway the following year when it went to St Mary's College student, Darragh Sheridan.
