FORMER Galway United striker Johnny Glynn is re-joining First Division outfit Mervue United as team manager.
Glynn, the hero of Galway United’s lone FAI Cup triumph in 1991, will take up his new post immediately and succeeds Tom French in the Mervue dug-out.
The city club has revealed that a number of candidates were interviewed for the position over the weekend before Glynn was appointed boss of the Airtricity First Division team.
Glynn was previously manager of the club for two seasons, having been in charge when Mervue gained promotion to the League of Ireland and he also managed the club in its debut season in the First Division in 2009. He will be announcing his backroom team shortly.
Club Chairman, Declan McDonnell, said: “We are delighted to welcome Johnny back to the club as first team manager and look forward to working with him in the season ahead.”
The club would also like to thank the other candidates who applied for the position and who showed an interest in the club.
