Ardrahan 2-10

IN a game of inches, composure counts for an awful lot and in stoppage time in this see-saw senior B group 2 encounter on Saturday evening, it was Killimordaly who showed theirs to secure the spoils over Ardrahan.

Twice they were hit with sucker-punch goals from the south Galway side in the second half and on each occasion, critically, Killimordaly, responded first to quell the opposition’s momentum just moments after it had just begun.

That’s a great sign of a teams’ mentality and it must be said Gary Earls’ men were full value for their victory having led for the majority of the contest without ever managing to shake off a resilient and gritty Ardrahan.

An opening day victory sets Killimordaly up nicely for their next round against Beagh knowing a victory will secure them a place in the preliminary quarter-final with a game to spare. That’s how important this victory was for Killimordaly.

This was a game which started off at a rate of knots which had those lucky enough to secure tickets into the ground salivating at the prospect of what was to come. However, the game soon slowed down and became rather stop-start in truth before livening up again near the finish.

Rumours have been rife for the past number of weeks surrounding the potential availability of Johnny Glynn for the Blues but despite being listed as number 30 in the digital match programme, there was no sighting of the towering Ardrahan attacker, now based in New York – I mean, he’s not the kind of fella who could sneak in and go unnoticed is he?
