Keating and Waweru hit the target again in latest victory

Galway United 2
Cobh Ramblers 0
THE task of winning a game is always made easier when your strikers have their scoring boots on, and that has certainly been the case for Galway United in the past month as John Caulfield’s side made it five wins on the spin on Friday night, with the usual suspects coming up with the goods.
Ruairi Keating and Wilson Waweru both found the net for the second consecutive game as United cut the gap on league leaders, Shelbourne, to nine points after the Dublin side conceded an injury-time equaliser to Treaty United.
A lot of the kudos in recent weeks has rightly been aimed at the United defence – and it delivered again on Friday night with a fourth consecutive clean sheet – but it is all well and good doing the business at one end, you need to capitalise on that defensive solidity at the other, and United have been doing that since the return after the mid-season break.
Keating was scoring for the third time in five games, Waweru for the third time in four games, and with Padraic Cunningham also scoring against Athlone Town (the referee credited the Headford man with United’s winner in that game) and Treaty United in this five-game winning-run, United look in fine fettle going forward.
They got off to a flier at Eamonn Deacy Park on Friday night, Keating scoring from the penalty spot against Cobh Ramblers for the third time this season; and United wrapped up the win early in the second-half when Waweru produced another sublime strike to match his finish against UCD the previous week.
For the first time this season, United went with the same starting XI for two successive games, meaning Alex Murphy continued his education at left-back, though there were places on the bench for new signings Thomas Oluwa and Luke Dennison. That was as close they got to the action, though there was an 81st minute debut for Joe Gorman, another new transfer window signing for United.
