Irish Cadet title for Delaney
MIKEY 'boy' Delaney won the National Junior Cadet title at the National Stadium in Dublin with a win over Timmy Lee Casey of Southside Boxing Club, Limerick, on a 3-0 unanimous win.
Mikey came through a tough quarter final and semi final bout to reach the final over the past two weekends. This is his second Irish triumph this season having won the boy 3 48kg title in April.
The win means that Mikey has secured his spot as number one choice at 48kg in the National Schoolboy squad and has qualified for the European Championships in Keszthely, Hungary from June 29 to July 6.t
Other representatives at the National Junior Cadet championships at the weekend were Brandon Mongan, Edward Barrett and Shane Corcoran who were all unlucky to be beaten in the semi final stage. This is Olympic Boxing Club's ninth Irish title of the season with one more National Championship to go in July.
