THE GALWAY minor hurlers make the trip to UPMC Nowlan Park to take on Kilkenny in round two of the Leinster Minor Hurling Championship on Saturday afternoon at 1pm.

Manager Kenneth Burke made no attempt to downplay his side’s ambitions, openly stating that his side’s primary objective this season is to secure the Leinster Championship title.

“We need to go as far as possible in Leinster, trying to win a Leinster title would be the target and see after that. We want to be competitive and we want to be pushing for trophies,” said Galway minor hurling manager Kenneth Burke.

Galway opened their Leinster Minor Hurling Championship campaign with a 1-23 to 1-19 victory over Laois last weekend in Portlaoise. Anthony Poinard was accurate from the placed ball scoring 0-9 frees, 0-1 65 and one point from play, while ten different players scored for the Tribesmen in their four point victory over Laois.

“You get another result, you should be in a semi-final but it’s game by game now and we just have to get ourselves right for this weekend.”

“This time of year, there are going to be breezes and you just have to deal with that. We created lots of chances in the first half and just didn’t take them, even in the second half we had a few chances we should have taken, happy to get the result.”

“It’s a hard mentality trying to keep them on their toes, everyone tells you are expected to win, it doesn't happen like that you have to go out and perform. Overall, we performed ok, a few things to work on,” explained Burke.

Vice-captain Tadgh MacCartaigh missed last Saturday’s clash through injury but Kenneth Burke confirmed that he should be back in contention for this weekend’s clash against Kilkenny. After this weekend, Galway finish off their round-robin series away to Dublin on Saturday May 2nd.
