Galway senior hurling captain Darren Morrissey primed for Kilkenny test

THE Leinster championship is about to get underway, and based on league form, Galway are in pole position. Kilkenny survived in the top tier after scraping wins against Waterford and Offaly, Dublin secured promotion but lost out in their two games against Clare, and it’s hard to make a cogent case for any of the other three.
However the question then becomes – how relevant or believable, is Galway’s encouraging league form?
“There's loads to be happy about and obviously there's loads of work-ons as well,” is how Darren Morrissey describes it.
“We won three games and lost three games so you wanted to be taking loads of learnings out of them three games. They were still relatively good performances but we were probably there or thereabouts and probably should have won them games too.
“We were probably chasing that 70 minute performance. If we hurled better for a 10 or 15 minute patch there in the Limerick game, we could have nicked it at the end”.
Perhaps the most surreal occasion of them all was when Kilkenny came to Salthill for what turned out to be a landslide win for Micheál Donoghue’s side. In fact Galway were so dominant, that Morrissey deems it irrelevant, for the purposes of assessing form in advance of this weekend’s rematch.
“On the day probably everything just clicked for us really. Everything just seemed to go right and we were probably in that flow state. It’s probably no harm though either, we owed Kilkenny one or two! I think we're well aware now that it's going to be a different animal coming in nine days' time.
