Today is €270,000 Tote Galway Plate Day - one of Ireland's most prestigious and historic horse races.
The high stakes jumps race sees the best horses and jockeys line-up for the sporting highlight of the week. It’s also country Music Day, headlined by Michael English, which will bring racegoers on a musical journey of Ireland’s most loved country and Irish songs.
Speaking to Galway Live, Michael Moloney, CEO of Galway Racecourse, said that the crew in Ballybrit are “very proud” of its major Irish summer tradition which “unites locals and visitors alike for the week”.

He added: “We can’t wait to open the gates and welcome everyone for what promises to be an incredible, action-packed week of competitive racing and top-class entertainment.”
Speaking ahead of his headline appearance, Michael English said: “The Galway Races is always one of the highlights of the summer, the atmosphere, the crowds, and the energy are second to none.”
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be headlining Country Music Day this year and can’t wait to see everyone in Ballybrit for what promises to be an incredible week.”
Nearly 50 acts will perform across multiple stages throughout the week with CEO of the Galway Races, Michael Moloney, saying it’s one of the strongest line ups they have ever had.
“We’re proud to present such a strong musical line-up for 2026. Live music is at the heart of the Galway Races experience, and this year’s programme headlined on Wednesday Michael English and supported by some fantastic returning favourites across the week guarantees an electric atmosphere from start to finish.”
