Home-town favourite one of the casualties of Connacht shake up

ONE of only a handful of Galway natives to have featured regularly on the Connacht squad over the past few seasons is on his way out of the Sportsground.

27-year-old Darragh Leader’s contract is not being extended by the province, with the Castlegar man now reportedly US bound in a new career move.

Capped 92 times by Connacht and scorer of 11 tries, eight penalties and six conversions, Leader is one of a number of players departing the West.

Only for a combination of wrist and shoulder injuries, Leader would have exceeded a century of caps for the province as he could also deputise on the wing.

The former Irish U20 international was a home-town favourite and his departure will come as a surprise to Connacht supporters.
