Galway hurler named on GAA.ie team of the week

GALWAY senior hurler Tom Monaghan has been named on the GAA.ie team of the week for his performance against Wexford in round five of the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship last weekend.
Monaghan landed 0-6 from play in Galway’s 2-31 to 3-20 win over Wexford last Sunday afternoon in Wexford Park. After not starting the opening two games of the Leinster SHC, the Craughwell clubman has made a significant impact scoring 1-13 from play in Galway last three games in the round robin series. Monaghan is now begining to re-establish himself on the Tribesmen’s starting XV.
Galway looked in real trouble trailing 3-9 to 0-5 after 23 minutes but Micheal Donoghue’s charges produced a spirited second half comeback to get the better of Wexford. Second half goals from Jason Rabbitte and Conor Cooney proved to be difference in the end as the Tribesmen ran out eight point winners.
Donoghue’s side now turn attention to the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship final against Dublin on Saturday June 6th at at 6pm in Croke Park. The men in maroon and white will be aiming to win the Leinster SHC title for the first time since 2018 on Saturday week.
A win will secure Galway’s place in the All-Ireland semi-final, while a defeat will see them meet Clare in the All-Ireland quarter-final.
