GALWAY senior footballer Shane Walsh is set for a spell on the sidelines in the coming months.

The 42.ie have reported that Walsh has undergone surgery in recent weeks, with the Kilmacud Crokes forward set to miss the remainder of the club season.

“He had an operation there a couple of weeks ago which will probably rule him out until after Christmas,” said Kilmacud Crokes manager David Nestor when speaking to The 42.ie.

Kilmacud Crokes booked their place into the Dublin Senior Football Championship quarter-final with a win over Ballinteer St John’s. Crokes will now face Castleknock in the Dublin SFC quarter-finals. Meanwhile, Galway footballer Cein D’Arcy has been in action for Ballyboden St Enda’s who remain unbeaten in this year’s championship. The Dublin champions face Clontarf in the last eight. Thomas Davis take on Ballymun Kickhams and Cuala meet Skerries Harps in the two remaining fixtures in the Dublin SFC quarter-finals.

Walsh featured in all of Galway’s championship five games this season where the 33 year old landed 1-23. Padraic Joyce stepped down as Galway senior football manager after seven seasons in charge last Thursday evening. The process to appoint the new Galway senior football manager has now begun.

“I want to thank each and every player, who trained and made sacrifices to wear the maroon and white jersey. It was a privilege to train you and watch you develop on and off the field. Behind every player and management/backroom team member are families who sacrifice more than most, so thank you to all of them and the people close to all of us who supported us along the way.Thank you to members of the Galway GAA County Board who helped prepare the team and assisted us over the years,” said Padraic Joyce.

“I look forward to supporting the players from the stand in the coming seasons and I wish the new management team every success,” added Joyce.

Some of the names being linked to the Galway job include: former Corofin manager Kevin O’Brien, Galway U20 manager Kevin Johnson, ex Galway senior selector John Divilly and former Galway manager Kevin Walsh.

James Horan who is also currently involved in the Moycullen senior football backroom team and Stephen Rochford who previously worked with Corofin are also being heavily linked to the role of Galway manager. Former Dublin manager Jim Gavin who led Dublin to seven All-Ireland titles is a name also being linked to the job.
