Galway camogie side turn attention to All-Ireland Championship clash against Tipperary

GALWAY camogie manager Cathal Murray was satisfied with his players’ reaction to their first round defeat to Cork, after their much improved performance against Waterford in Walsh Park on Sunday.
‘‘Coming down here, we know exactly how good this Waterford team is,’’ he said. ‘‘I thought it was a brilliant game. We were going in at half time under pressure; we were only two points up after playing with a strong wind. I thought in the second half that we showed real character and a real will to win.’’
‘‘Our work rate was incredible, and we used the ball really well. We also got a serious impact off the bench. Caoimhe Kelly and Niamh Niland both got points after coming on and you always need that. Overall, we’re really happy; we have a bit of momentum now and we’re in a better position than we were last week.’’
Murray felt that the positioning of Aoife Donohue in the full forward line paid dividends, with Donohue scoring Galway’s all-important goal in the first half against a Waterford team which had overcome Tipperary at the same venue the previous weekend.
‘‘We started Aoife inside because we felt she would give us some go-forward ball in there and that’s exactly what she did. That goal was obviously very important in such a close game.’’
‘’The main thing coming down here was to get a win, whatever way we got it. We got our season back on track today and we’ll knuckle down again now for Tipp in two weeks,’’ he added. Galway will face Tipperary on June 28 in a home fixture.
