GALWAY defender Katie-Anna Porter relishes being part of the county senior camogie panel and has nailed down her place in the number five jersey this season. The 23-year-old from the Davitts club feels that the environment is a hugely enjoyable one to experience

‘‘It’s a great privilege to be part of this panel,’’ she said. ‘‘It’s such an enjoyable group to be involved with. We all get along so well and we’re a very tight knit group. You could go into the dressing room and have a chat and a laugh with any of the girls, but as soon as we go out on the pitch, everyone work really hard and brings huge determination to the sessions.’’

The Galway wing back feels she is learning a huge amount from training and playing with Galway’s veteran camogie stars who have achieved the highest honours in the game.

‘‘They are the players we grew up watching when I was playing at under 16 and minor level; going see them win All-Irelands in 2019 and 2021. I remember being brought in to play with them in panel matches when I was playing intermediate.

"You could see the huge work rate and energy they brought, and you knew that was the level we needed to reach. I just remember thinking ‘This is where I want to be.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s clash with Kilkenny, Porter will be taking nothing for granted when the Tribeswomen line out against the Cats at Semple Stadium.

‘‘Kilkenny are a really strong side. They beat us in the league and came out of their championship group undefeated, so they have huge momentum with them. They won their quarter-final against a tough Waterford side. So, we know we will have to get to another level to win,’’ she added.
