Galway minor footballers aim for a reaction against Sligo

GALWAY minor football manager Cossie Gilmore is hoping his side will react this Friday against Sligo after last week’s defeat to Roscommon.
“Sligo is a huge game for us now, Mayo beat Leitrim by three points. If you can win your home games, you are in with a shout, there’s good players there. Hopefully we can come back strong from that. We have to learn fast, the games are coming fast,” said Gilmore.
Galway now face Sligo in round three of the Connacht Championship on Friday (6:30pm) at Tuam Stadium. After that clash, the Tribesmen will have a bye in round four and will then conclude their round-robin campaign away to Mayo on April 17.
“That doesn’t mean that there isn’t talent in our team, we just have to reset and regroup, there’s good players there. We’ve shown that, didn’t perform tonight whether there was a bit of nerves, I don’t know, they are young lads at the end of the day. You have to take that into account, they are not the finished article.”
Breaking ball was an area Gilmore felt his side struggled in against Roscommon. “We struggled with breaking ball all day, whereas (against Leitrim) we were winning every breaking ball. It’s hard to get on top of a game if you are not winning the breaking ball, that was the big thing for us. We struggled on the ball, we couldn’t get it at times but to their credit they still fought hard and came back into it.
“We wouldn’t have deserved to win that game by any manner of means, it would have been a steal but at least we were there at the end to try and do that.”
