LIMERICK team captain Cian Lynch appears to have overcome a hamstring complaint to be fully available for this Sunday’s All-Ireland final, where he will look to collect a sixth senior medal.

Only afforded fifteen minutes from the bench against Clare, he was his typically self-deprecating about his influence in turning the tide towards the men in green.

“I was only honoured and privileged to have the opportunity the come on. I was trying to give that impact from the bench. Lads kept going, they kept plugging away and we got impact from the bench – from Mike Casey, David Reidy, Tom Morrisey and Fintan Fitzgerald”.

Interestingly, Lynch was sent off for NUIG in the 2022 Fitzgibbon Cup final, against UL. He lined up alongside John Fleming and Evan Niland that day but admits he didn’t watch Galway eliminate Cork in the other last four clash.

“I was flat out at home with the two young fellas! I haven’t had the chance to review it. Galway are a great side, they’re a massive side. What they’ve done throughout the year – they are a credit to themselves”, added the 30-year-old.

Hurler of the Year in 2018, the skilful Lynch wouldn’t be drawn on reflection, instead, remaining laser focused on the current Galway challenge.“2018 was huge for the whole of Limerick really. But each year takes a life of its own, so for us, it is always to focus on the current year.”

Lynch is one of 47 men from Patrickswell who have lined for the Shannonsiders in League or Championship, and while he was stand-in captain in 2023, he could become the first man from the famous club to captain Limerick to All-Ireland glory at senior level.
