IT’S the turn of ladies’ football this week, as we call on Tribune readers to select their ‘Greatest Galway LGFA XV’ of all-time.

Since the LGFA All-Stars awards scheme began in 1980, Galway has won 25 awards, with no less than seven players – namely Bernadette Stankard (1980 & 1981), Emer Flaherty (2003 & 2004), Lisa Coohill (2003 & 2004), Annette Clarke (2004 & 2013), Ruth Stephens (2004 & 2005), Aoibheann Daly (2005 & 2006) and Sinead Burke (2018 & 2019) – winning two gongs each.

In addition, Galway, who contested their first All-Ireland senior final in 1975, have won six awards in the right-half back position and another five in the right-half-forward position but have yet to secure an All-Star at centre-forward or left-half forward. So, for this week, we are throwing it open to the readers to select a ‘one-to-fifteen’ of Galway greatest players.

One stipulation is that your selection must contain at least 10 All-Star winners (otherwise it is null and void) while another is that the players selected must be from categories listed below: All-Star winners, All-Ireland Senior finalists, All-Ireland Junior finalists, County Sports Star winners and Other.

‘Other’ is mainly made up of players who featured for Galway in National League finals, of which Galway have lost six. Any of the players listed below can appear in any position you deem fit.

When you have completed your team (only completed TYPED teams will be accepted), please email your selection to [email protected] by 1pm on Thursday, May 7. One entry per email address only.

The selections will then be collated, with the top 10 All-Stars receiving the most votes getting preference. This is to avoid campaigning for players outside this elite group. The remaining positions on the team will be awarded to the next five players who received the highest number of votes. In the event of a tie for a particular position, the final call will rest with the Connacht Tribune sports department.
