Carrie Dolan content with Galway hitting form at right time

After running out comprehensive winners over Tipperary at Kenny Park on last Sunday, Galway captain Carrie Dolan was very satisfied with her side’s performance post-match.
‘‘We’ve been disappointed with our home games this year, in the league and championship,’’ she said.
‘‘We really targeted [winning] today. The choice was [qualifying for] a quarter final today or straight to a semi-final, and in fairness to the girls, they put in a really good performance.’’
Dolan feels that Galway have shaken off the rustiness which was evident in their opening round defeat to Cork at the same venue, and that the defending champions have improved considerably since then.
‘‘We had no provincial championship, so we’re probably only getting to the pitch of it now. In the first two games we were kind of getting into the swing of things.
"We were trying different things, and different players were getting a chance. So, it’s probably our consistency that’s starting to improve a bit now.’’
The Clarinbridge star was pleased with Galway’s spread of scorers, with eight different players tallying against Tipperary, while she was also happy with their total of 3-17 against opponents who finished their group campaign without a win byt still make the All-Ireland quarter-finals.
‘‘In the first two games we put up fairly low scores, and even in the league final as well. It’s something we have targeted. Sometimes we’ve been playing within ourselves and not taken on shots, maybe we’ve just given the ball off to someone else.
"But if you have a Galway jersey on out on that field you have to be confident to take your shot, and I thought the girls did really well with that today,’’ added the Galway skipper.
