GALWAY camogie manager Cathal Murray was heartened with how his team performed on last Saturday against Cork, and delighted to have reached another league final after a difficult start to the season.

‘‘We’re delighted with the performance today from the girls,’’ he said. ‘‘It was easily our best performance of the year. We’d lost our last two home games; Kilkenny beat us in Ballinasloe, and Waterford beat us here [in Kenny Park]. We were probably staring down the barrel of relegation a few weeks ago, or at least not making the league final anyway.’

‘‘The girls showed great resilience; we went down to the Ragg and got a great win down there. We got a good win last week up in Antrim; but I still thought we probably hadn’t done enough to make the league final. So, look, we’re delighted to get the win today, and it’s a great bonus to get to the final.

‘‘If we had lost to Cork today, we wouldn’t have had another competitive game until early June. So, it’s great to get another three weeks out of the league, and it’ll be really good for us. We don’t have any provincial championship to compete in, so it’s always important for us to get to the latter stages of the league.’’

Murray expects a tough test to come against a high flying Waterford side, who defeated the Tribeswomen in round two of the league last month,.

‘‘Waterford were the better team, they’ve done particularly well this year. They have excellent players and they finished top of the group for a reason. They’ve been the best team in the league and they’re going to be a huge challenge for us in three weeks,’’ he concluded.
