CAHERLISTRANE singer Seán Keane and his band, consisting of Pat Coyne on guitar and backing vocals and Fergus Feeley on guitar, will make a welcome return to the Forge in Moycullen this Friday night, December 30.

In the eighteen years since Seán began his solo career, he has captivated audiences from Austria to Canada, with writer Joseph O’Connor describing him as “the Caruso of Irish music" in his novel, The Star of the Sea.

Seán began performing traditional songs from the age of seven and picked up thirteen All-Ireland medals for singing in his youth.

Drawn into the world of theatre, he starred in the Druid's production of The Midnight Court and Sheep's Milk on the Boil at the Abbey Theatre before deciding to dedicate himself to music full time.

He was a founder member of the group Arcady, alongside Sharon Shannon and Máirtín O’Connor, before embarking on a solo career, which has seen him mix folk, country blues and pop songs in critically acclaimed albums including All Heart, No Roses, Turn a Phrase, No Stranger and The Man that I Am, among others.

Seán turned his attention to the theme of emigration in his DVD and CD, An Irish Scattering, which was released in 2008, in which he explored songs relating to the Irish experiences abroad and also looked at the new Irish who have come to these shores from countries such as Poland.

Always a warm and generous live performer, Seán will be bringing his musical magic to the Forge on December 30 with the concert starting at 9pm. Tickets are €20 and are available from the pub, 091 868944.
