Prize heifer donated to mart with proceeds of sale going to charity
A County Galway farmer, whose sister was looked after by Galway Hospice, has decided to donate a heifer to Tuam Mart with the proceeds of the sale going towards the charity.
Farmer JP Shaughnessy was so impressed by the service provided to his late sister Norita that he decided to donate one of his Hereford calves for auction which will take place at Tuam Mart next Monday.
The family from Lackaghmore, Turloughmore bought 50 suck calves at a sale in County Clare back in 2019 and this two year old heifer has been kept back for auction in aid of Galway Hospice.
The two years old heifer is bound to attract a four figure sum and the family are hoping that it might exceed expectations.
At the moment all auctions at Tuam Mart and, indeed, other marts around the county are being held online but this will take on a life of its own.
It was when JP appreciated of the services provided by Galway Hospice. His sister Norita had been living in Dublin when she was diagnosed with cancer. She moved back to Galway where she was cared for by the Hospice Foundation.
JP and wife Una’s children John, Marie, Siobhan and Paul are appreciative of the assistance their relative received and are hoping that this initiative works out well.
