NUI Galway has slipped out of the top 300 list of universities in the latest international league table.

For the first time ever, not one single Irish third level college is featured in the top 100 in the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

Trinity is down 41 places to 117, while the slump for UCD is even worse - it's down 65 places to 159, with NUIG not even featuring in the top 300.

The California Institute of Technology in America is ranked as the world' s leading higher education college ahead of Harvard and Stanford which share second place.
