Yeats' artefacts could be lent to South Galway groups

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Valuable artefacts relating to poet, W.B Yeats's life at Thoor Ballylee in Gort could go on display locally.

The tower has been closed for the past few years due to flood damage, but Senator Lorraine Higgins is keen that Yeats's footprint in Galway as a tourism attraction is not lost.

She raised the matter in the Seanad and Minister of State for Tourism, Michael Ring said Bord Fáilte would be willing to lend the artefacts to local organisations.

However the necessary legal indemnities would have to be put in place, according to Minister Ring.

Speaking to Galway Bay fm News, Senator Higgins says it's important to preserve Yeats's legacy.
