WORSE NIGHT FOR GORSE FIRES IN GALWAY

A spokesperson for the fire fighting services says last night (Saturday) was the worst night they have witnessed for gorse fires across Galway from Abbeyknockmoy in the North to Gort in the South and Clifden in the West.

While the major gorse fire in the Cleggan area was brought unter control by 10 last night the road from Cleggan Cross to Cleggan remains closed this morning due to damaged water pipes and amid fears of subsidence.

Gorse fires were also brought under control during the early hours in Ballinduff, Corranulla, Derrymore, Headford, Tierneegvin, Gort, Camus, Connemara, three small outbreaks close to Woodies, Dun Na Corribe, Terryland and the RTC in the city, Abbeyknockmoy, Tuam and at Moyard.
