Westdoc meets with nurses union over insurance dispute
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Westdoc has described a meeting with the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation today as positive. The meeting was held to discuss a dispute involving 15 nurses who were laid off in March. Westdoc is an out-of-hours GP service available to 180 thousand people in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon. The nurses at the centre of the dispute were laid off after the INMO's insurer withdrew personal liability cover for the employees concerned. Union reps argue the nurses can't get insurance cover elsewhere at a reasonable cost. The union met CEO of Westdoc, Brian O' Keeffe today in a bid to resolve the dispute. A spokesperson has decribed the meeting as ‘positive' and says both parties are working together in a bid to finalise a potential agreement.
