Galway city council will put two water tankers in the east of the city this afternoon, as efforts continue to repair a burst pipe on the Headford road.

Thousands of homes and businesses in areas such as the Tuam Road, Monivea Road, Doughiska, Parkmore, Ballybrit, Ballybane, Briarhill , Renmore, Roscam and parts of the city centre have little or no water supply since yesterday.

A twenty-one inch mains pipe, four feet underground on the Headford road, that feeds water to the Ballybane reservoir, is being repaired by the council, and they expect to finish late tonight, with water expected to return to domestic pipes by tomorrow morning.

It took council workers quite some time yesterday to isolate the leak coming from the Coolock reservoir to Bothar an Chóiste, where remedial work continues. To help deal with water shortages, Galway city council is putting tankers at Ballybane church and at the Doughiska road.
